SHIPPING & CARGO POLICY
This Shipping and Cargo Policy outline the terms and conditions governing the transportation of cargo by KNSL. This policy applies to all customers using our cargo booking and shipping services.
By booking cargo with KNSL, you agree to comply with this policy.
Cargo Booking Requirements
Customers must provide complete and accurate information at the time of booking, including:
- Description of goods
- Weight and dimensions
- Volume (Cubic Meter – CBM)
- Origin and destination ports
- Consignee and shipper details
KNSL reserves the right to reject or delay shipments with incomplete or incorrect information.
Packaging and Labelling
- All cargo must be securely packed to withstand sea transport conditions
- Fragile items must be clearly labelled as “FRAGILE”
- Perishable goods must be properly preserved and declared
- Each package must include:
- Shipper name
- Consignee name
- Destination
KNSL is not liable for damage caused by inadequate packaging.
Cargo Acceptance and Inspection
- KNSL reserves the right to inspect all cargo before loading
- Any cargo deemed unsafe, illegal, or improperly declared will be refused
- Additional charges may apply for repacking or handling
Prohibited and Restricted Goods
Prohibited Items
The following items are strictly not allowed:
- Explosives and flammable materials
- Hazardous chemicals
- Illegal goods or contraband
- Weapons and dangerous substances
Restricted Items
Certain goods may be accepted under special conditions, including:
- Fuel or gas containers (must be empty and certified safe)
- Heavy machinery (subject to handling requirements)
Customers must declare all restricted items in advance.
Cargo Handling and Storage
- Cargo is handled with reasonable care during loading, transport, and unloading
- Storage is provided at owner’s risk unless otherwise agreed
- KNSL is not responsible for:
- Natural deterioration
- Leakage or evaporation
- Damage due to weather conditions
Delivery and Collection
- Consignees must collect cargo within the specified time after arrival
- Valid identification is required for cargo collection
- Unclaimed cargo may incur storage charges or be disposed of after a specified period
Freight Charges
- Charges are calculated based on:
- Weight or volume (CBM), whichever is higher
- Type of cargo
- Destination
All charges must be paid in full before cargo release unless otherwise agreed.
Liability and Claims
- KNSL’s liability for loss or damage is limited and subject to investigation
- Claims must be submitted in writing within 7 days of cargo receipt
- Supporting documents (invoice, photos, etc.) must be provided
KNSL is not liable for:
- Undeclared or misdeclared goods
- Delays beyond our control
- Loss due to force majeure events
Insurance
- Cargo insurance is not included unless specifically requested
- Customers are advised to arrange insurance for valuable or sensitive goods
Bill of Lading
- A Bill of Lading will be issued upon successful booking and payment
- This document serves as:
- Proof of shipment
- Receipt of goods
- Contract of carriage
Compliance with Laws
All shipments must comply with applicable laws and regulations in Kiribati. Customers are responsible for ensuring compliance.
Amendments
KNSL reserves the right to update this Shipping and Cargo Policy at any time. Updates will be posted on our website.
